The story of Everything But Anchovies

Built by family. Kept alive by community.

Everything But Anchovies opened in Hanover in 1979. For nearly four decades, EBA’s brought people together over pizza, breadsticks and chicken sandwiches on Portuguese muffins. What lasted was the connection between the people making the food and the people coming back for it.

Eleven children. Generations of people.

Leo “Buddy” Dowd’s children built EBA’s, with Maureen Dowd Bogosian leading the charge. All eleven contributed, alongside generations of employees whose work and welcome made the restaurant part of everyday life.

Today, Buddy’s grandson Eddie Bogosian is carrying the food vision into a third-generation return. That family continuity matters, and so do all the people who helped make EBA’s their own.

Two communities, sharing the same tables.

Upper Valley residents, families and employees sustained EBA’s year-round. Dartmouth students, the school community and returning alumni helped power its busiest occasions and carried its reputation well beyond Hanover.

Both belong at the center of this comeback. Whether EBA’s was part of your daily routine, your college years or a visit home, your place in its story matters.

A spark for the next chapter.

The restaurant closed in 2017, but people kept sharing their memories. When Noah Kahan remembered EBA’s and Dragon Juice in his Nardwuar interview, it helped spark renewed attention and momentum for the comeback. The family and community story behind that moment had already been growing for decades.

Bringing EBA’s back, one step at a time.

The return is taking shape through familiar food, original gear, planned pop-ups and local partnerships.

Dragon Juice is still working toward its first production batch. An expanding sauce line and frozen pizza are in development, creating new ways to enjoy EBA’s beyond the original restaurant. Original EBA’s gear is available now; food releases and gatherings will be announced as they are ready.

Each product and gathering helps reconnect us with customers and support the next stage. Longer term, our ambition is to create a gathering place in the Upper Valley. That is a goal we’re building toward, not a confirmed reopening plan.
